In this episode, we talk with Kate Kelly, a talented writer, speaker, and historian, who shares how curiosity drives good storytelling, why it’s important to respond to your audience, and how to get started writing people’s stories.
Kate is the writer and publisher of America Comes Alive!, a website that features little-known stories of regular people who have made a difference and changed the course of history.
Everyone has a story worth telling. It may take some digging, but if you ask the right questions, you’ll eventually find out what a person is passionate about – and that’s always a story people enjoy learning more about.
Always be curious. Curiosity drives growth and inspires great stories, both of which engage audiences in the message you’re sending.
Respond to your audience. Pay attention to how your work is received and adjust accordingly. Staying flexible and focusing on your audience’s interests will keep them coming back.
Writing is a craft. While some can be naturally talented with writing, good writing can come from anyone who practices enough. The important part is to just start writing.
