Demystifying Web3

featuring Alison McCauley

Best-Selling Author and Web3 Keynote Speaker

Alison McCauley, Best-Selling Author and Web3 Keynote Speaker, discusses Web3 with host Steve Gilman in this episode of the Brand Story Podcast.

When the first blockchain was implemented in 2009, its only use was for bitcoin. As people started realizing the potential of blockchain technology, they started experimenting and creating more, leading us to where we are today. With many different categories and uses, blockchains continue to mystify people as their popularity only continues to grow. Alison McCauley is working to untangle this new Web3 space and teach others how they can better understand and reap the benefits of the emerging technology.

As Alison breaks down the basics of Web3, we’re given a sneak peek at the opportunities blockchains have to offer. She compares the technology to the original launch of the Internet and addresses the misconceptions surrounding it. In her words, emerging tech holds great opportunity, but comes with great responsibility.

Quickfire Q&A

What’s had the most impact on you and what made you want to be a translator for emerging tech?

I’m inspired and I’m driven by trying to understand human behavior and the human condition. As soon as I got out of graduate school, the Web was starting to be a thing, and what I saw was the combination of where hardware and software were going was going to completely shape the human condition. This is the area we have the most opportunity to shape, which then shapes us.

If you weren’t running Unblocked and translating tech concepts, what would you be doing?

I’d probably still be working in the space trying to understand it. I’m always trying to get my head around new things and try to understand what it means, but I think I’d spend a lot more time with my kids.

If you could give your younger self any advice, what would you tell yourself?

I would absolutely just follow my passion and not worry about anything else. I started off in a very traditional career path because that’s what was done. I am so inspired by people who are younger than I am that jump into things and follow their own path with purity about what excites them and interests them.
