Jim Campbell is the President and CEO of New Country Organics, a company focused on producing certified organic, soy-free feed and supporting a growing community of farmers, homesteaders, and families. Before entering the agricultural industry, Jim built his career in financial services, eventually choosing to pursue more mission-driven work. Since joining New Country Organics in 2008, he has helped expand the company’s reach, product offerings, and impact—while staying rooted in its core mission of improving soil health, supporting organic farming, and giving people greater control over their food systems.

What do people misunderstand most about where their food comes from?

Jim: There is so much people really don’t know about the food chain, and they might be uncomfortable to learn more about how food is mass-produced. The industrial food chain is very linear in its logic — very industrial — and it can be quite brutal in how it processes animals to feed the human population.

What would you call this chapter of your life?

Jim: I would say it’s the chapter of creation. I worked in the corporate industry and so forth, but the chance to do your own thing and make a difference is incredible. I look back, and I wish I had done this earlier in life.

What advice would you give your younger self?

Jim: Be more willing to take risks. With the advent of AI in particular, people should be thinking about how to find their own thing and do their own thing, to make a living and hopefully do very well.
